ALL THINGS LEARNING

My name is Réka, and I usually introduce myself as an international education and language expert. But what does that really mean, you may ask? I get to help people learn new things in all sorts of settings, be it a new language, experiencing a new culture for the first time, or how to get their research published in international journals.I enjoy learning new things myself: my most recent interest is in instructional design (i.e. e-learning) and how to create inspiring digital learning materials that make you want to keep learning.I’ve been engaged in various aspects of teaching and learning over the years, and I’ve found that I enjoy both the project management and the instruction aspect of education.

Project management

I believe project management is the art of creating order from chaos, no matter what tools or project management approach you happen to choose (although I manage my own projects in Notion). For me, the important part is to anticipate issues so they don’t become big headaches in the first place. If you approach new challenges with curiosity and an open mind, the rest will follow.

Student mobility

Moving to a new country as an international student can be both an exhilarating and a taxing experience. I help students navigate new languages and cultures, making sure they have the opportunity to integrate in their new local environment. The sweet spot is finding a balance between a safe study abroad experience and making the most of all the opportunities international exchange can provide.

Training

My main expertise is in teaching writing, specializing in research and academic writing in English. I typically create tailor-made, focused courses that enable self-directed learning as much as possible.

My teaching philosophy:
Research writing can be enjoyable, it doesn’t have to be a slog that you dread!
I believe in facilitating writing development in an engaging and interactive way, where learners work with their own texts rather than model articles or invented writing tasks with a hypothetical audience.

Instructional design

I’m currently developing online courses for Hungarian researchers who want to publish the results of their research in international journals in English.

My ID philosophy:
Motivation is everything - if you can't find a way to motivate your learners, no matter how gamified and interactive your course, many learners will find it difficult to engage with it.
The key is to learn the pain points of your target audience and tailor your courses to address those issues. That way learners will feel the course is "about them", and they will be motivated to keep learning.
